Communication Design — Project 2
Process: 09.07.2021
1. Playful vs. Serious
The following compositions seek to evoke a sense of playfulness through rotated, randomly shaped and placed squares (left) as opposed to a sense of seriousness through symmetry and regularly placed and spaced squares (right). In each pair, I considered either the same number of squares or a similar relationship between the elements in every set so that each could be viewed as a contrasting pair.
2. Noisy vs. Quiet
The following compositions seek to evoke a sense of noise through irregularly sized and spaced squares (left) and a sense of quiet through regularly spaced, uniform squares (right). I realize that the compositions on the right are not very successful. More white space and fewer divisions would evoke a stronger sense of quiet.
3. Dangerous vs. Safe
The following compositions seek to evoke a sense of danger through sharp edges (left) and a sense of safety through smooth edges (right).
For the rest of the project, I will be focusing on playful vs. serious and noisy vs. quiet. I find both pairs to have great potential to be represented as compositions using squares, and am excited to iterate further.
